Open House - Soup Dinner

Hillside Elementary School Open House is scheduled for Thursday, January 28th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  There will be a variety of activities for your family. 

• Guided tour of our school and your child’s classroom given by your child.
• There will be a soup dinner the night of open house in the dining room.  The cost is $3.00 and includes a choice of four kinds of soups cookie and  milk.
• Kids Bank will be open for your child to make a deposit and/or open up an account.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher Conferences for grades K-6 will be held on February 25 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and March 1 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.  Sign up sheets will be posted located outside the front office beginning January 28th at our Open House "Gallery Night".

Conferences help teachers learn more about their students.  To facilitate a team approach to conferencing (parent and teacher working together); it may be a good idea to prepare in advance some questions you may want to ask your child’s teacher.  Parent questions help open communication lines and let teachers know what interests and concerns you may have about the social or academic development of your child. Some good questions to ask as follows:

• Is my child in different groups for different subjects? Why?
• How well does my child get along with others?
• What are my child's best and worst subjects?
• Is my child working up to his or her ability?
• Does my child participate in class discussions and activities?
• Has my child missed any classes other than ones I contacted the school about?
• Have you noticed any sudden changes in the way my child acts? For example, have you noticed any squinting, tiredness or moodiness that might be a sign of physical or other problems?
• What kinds of tests are being done?
• What do the tests tell about my child's progress?
• How does my child handle taking tests?

CHESS – Thursday Mornings

Mr. Munson, Valley High School’s Chess Coach is here at Hillside Elementary every Thursday morning in our dining room.  All Hillside students are welcome to come and play chess starting at 8:00 a.m. every Thursday morning.  If you have questions, please call Ben Munson at 276-0634.
